Amy is always taking care of the patient as a whole, not just solving the current problem.
Q: What do your daily activities include?
A: I work in Bellville as a Charge Nurse and ER nurse. Since we are a rural facility, we all do a little bit of everything to meet the needs of our patients. You may find me on med-surg coordinating care or arranging discharge and a few moments later in the ER helping with a trauma activation. We just all pitch in where we are needed.
Q: What do you love most about your job?
A: I grew up in Bellville, and nothing makes me happier than taking care of and giving back to the members of the community that have not only watched me grow up but who also have helped get me where I am today. The care we give at a rural hospital does not stop when the patient leaves the hospital, it continues when you see the patients at the grocery store, at church, or at local civic functions. We all form a connection with our patients that helps us treat the whole patient, not just the current problem.
Q: What made you want to work in healthcare?
A: I love people and could not have found more satisfaction in helping others than in healthcare.
Q: Where did you go to school?
A: I am a graduate of the Blinn Vocational Nursing Program and the Excelsior College ADN program.
Q: What do you like most about CHI St. Joseph Health?
A: When I started in Bellville, we were an independent facility. It has been nice to align with a larger facility in order to better serve our patients and their needs.
Q: How would you describe your philosophy of care?
A: Take care of the whole patient, not just the current problem. Ask questions and get to know each patient as an individual. We all have had lives and were more than just a person in a bed. You can learn so much about life from talking with your patients.
Q: What do you like most about the community?
A: I may be biased since I’ve lived here my entire life, but this has to be the best community to ever live in. You cannot find a more supportive community that truly cares about each other.
Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
A: I enjoy spending time at the lake fishing with my family.
